'08 Big Dog Pitbull
By Dain Gingerelli

Custom rigids aren’t necessarily favored by enthusiasts who feel that the ride is as important as the “look.” Big Dog’s 2008 Pitbull might change that because this re-styled rigid behaves as if it has suspension in its hind quarters.

The change is attributed to three primary factors: a mild 32-degree steering rake 23- and 20-inch wheels front and rear, and a pair of adjustable springs beneath the Pitbull’s solo seat. A conservative rake, of course, helps minimize fork flop, in turn reducing steer-in effort. And the unconventionally large-diameter wheels are less prone to become swallowed up in potholes, in turn making for a smoother ride than you’d expect from a bike with no rear suspension. Finally, any bounce that sneaks through to the frame is further dampened by the seat’s coil springs.

Clearly Big Dog Motorcycles has hit on a winning formula for rigid-frame customs. Mix in the retro-savvy boardtrack styling and you have a Pitbull that even Mike Vick would find favor with.
